Oh, Santa Fe!

This past weekend we had the pleasure of flying out to Santa Fe, New Mexico for the wedding of my dear friend, Angelica.  The wedding weekend was beautiful, Angelica and Mills [the groom] were stunning, and the company was exactly what the doctor ordered.  Here's the day-by-day rundown of our first trip cross-country with Teigan...

Thursday:
After meticulously planning and packing so we weren't bringing along our entire life, we headed to the airport.  No major issues leaving Knoxville, other than the near panic attack I was having because I was so worried that Teigan wasn't going to do well and the entire plane was going to whisper death threats our way because of our screaming baby.  Low and behold, not a single peep out of her the entire 2.5 hours.  Hallelujah!  I thought I'd gone to Heaven... such a relief.
First plane trip!
Well, upon landing, I realized that we were actually about half an hour late arriving.  Crap.  We only had a 50 minute layover.  After a heart-racing-near-screaming-argument with the woman behind me who decided she should get in front of us in line to exit the plane because she had a flight leaving 5 minutes after us, I strapped on Teigan and there we went.  Just 15 minutes before our connection was supposed to leave, Ben grabbed our carry-on bags and I raced ahead with Teigan in-tow in the Ergo [best. invention. ever].  Fast forward 5 minutes.  The American Airlines employee looks at me, Teigan and I sweating, and says "Sorry, it's policy to close the door 10 minutes before scheduled take-off."  I about lost it.  The door was open and I was there!  Are you kidding me?!  Ben showed up about 30 seconds later and I told him that he had to handle this because the redhead in me was about to show up and smack the woman in the face.  We were with an infant and being late wasn't our fault!  Come on, people... have some sympathy!  Fast forward 2 hours.  We're waiting outside the Dallas-Fort Worth airport for a shuttle to take us to the Ramada.  Fast forward 45 minutes.  We arrive at the beloved hotel that American so graciously offered us because a) we had a baby, and b) I think the woman realized how ridiculous she was to us because of "policy".  As Ben says it, it's the policy - not the law.  Such a smart man.  Anyways, anyone who knows me knows that hotels totally skeeve me out, except for super nice ones, in which case I'm then willing to touch the floor, counter-tops, and sheets.  I still won't ever touch the covers.  Ugh!  Okay, so we walk into this particular hotel and I about die.  Not only is it obviously the cheapest hotel on the block, but there is porn, yes porn, playing on the TV in the lobby.  Are. You. Kidding. ME?!  What dimension did I just enter?  Where the hell am I?  Did I mention that we were left with absolutely no toiletries, diapers, food, or clothes [underwear included] since all of it was in our checked bag?  Um, yeah.  Epic mommy fail.  I was dying.  Needless to say, Ben and I barely slept that night.  Teigan, on the other hand, was perfectly content.  Seriously, love her.

Friday:
After waking with a rumbling stomach, stinging eyeballs, and a serious case of the heebie-jeebies, I put on Teigan's "clean" [hellooo, boiling water from the coffee maker - don't judge] onesie, and we headed out the door and back to the airport.  Thank God for McDonald's coffee.  After another super successful flight to Santa Fe [thank you, baby Jesus!], Meredith and Jacob picked us up at the airport.  So great seeing the two of them.  After what could be designated as the best shower of my life, we all headed out to the Plaza to meet up with all of the girls, their honey's, and Mary Gayle and Donny.  It was so wonderful finally meeting Mills and Dave [Haely's main squeeze].  Not to mention, seeing my girls.  Ahh, I've missed them so much.  After wandering around Santa Fe for a while, we headed back to get ready for the Rehearsal Dinner.
So stinkin' cute... Meredith & Teigan
Talk about one heck of an evening.  With the sun setting, guacamole being made, and margaritas flowing, it was just stunning.  An evening full of wonderful speeches [ahem, Haely!] and memories; it was so much fun.  Oh, and creme brulee cheesecake... I really don't like cheesecake, but seriously... it was fantastic!  And Teigan, totally a dollface.  Seriously, how did we get this lucky?

Saturday:
We all got up and while Meg, Meredith, and I headed out to the hills of Santa Fe for the bridesmaid luncheon, Jacob, Ben, and Teigan hung out watching football and being lazy.  The bridesmaid luncheon was totally ridonk.  To sum it up quickly [since this is apparently a marathon blog], the location overlooked all of Santa Fe and we received the equivalent of an Emmy's swag bag.  It was absolutely amazing!

Fast forward 6 hours.  Angelica walking down the grass aisle at the outdoor ceremony site with the sun setting was breathtaking.  She was, as always, so insanely gorgeous.  As soon as Angelica and Mills were together in front of the intimate group, cue Teigan crying.  Yep, crying.  She had yet to do this thus far the entire trip, so it's not all that surprising that it finally happened... but that may have had something to do with the fact that she was over an hour late eating.  I thought she could make it through the ceremony.  Mommy fail [again].  Anyways, it was a lovely ceremony with an absolutely hysterical pastor, followed by a mariachi band that led the group to the reception site.

Family photo op
It was a lovely evening full of fresh salsa, delicious fruit sangria, dancing, a Bobo-Haely duet, tons of bonding time with Dave aka Teigan's crush, and a zonked-out Teigan who was passed around to an estimated 40 strangers who kissed all over her before Mary Gayle whisked her away for the rest of the evening.  MG was in Heaven.  I'm not sure of the relation of Teigan to Mary Gayle [Haely's mom, Kathy's sister-in-law, and one of my favorite ladies on the planet], but we'll go with  Auntie.  Sound good?  Yep.

Anyways, not gonna lie, by the end of the night, the lack of sleep was really wearing on me and I wanted to cuddle with my hubby and little girl so bad.  But, I also didn't want to say goodbye to everyone.  That part sucked and I already miss them all so much!

Sunday:
Meg, Ben, Teigan, and I had an early trip to the Santa Fe airport that morning, but the shuttle ride and the trip to Dallas-Fort Worth went off without a hitch.  It was fun having Meg on the same plane as us and watching her drool all over her chest when she was wide-open-mouth-sleeping. I totally should have taken a picture.  Dangit.  We had a long layover at DFW and, as it turns out, about five minutes after I decide to trek it over to the other side of the terminal to get us grilled chicken and avocado sandwiches, Ben calls to inform me that Teigan has had a diaper explosion all over herself.  Awesome.  While I should have been concerned, I honestly wasn't.  All I was doing was being thankful that this go-round, I made sure that a clean change of clothes for all of us were accessible - along with plenty of diapers and wipes.  Mommy win!  Oh, and for the record, no crying on the fourth and final trip, either.  Teigan is a super-duper-plane-flying-trooper.  Let's just hope this works for the upcoming trips to Salt Lake City, Chicago, and Houston.  If not, I suppose I'll bring my "free complimentary drink" coupon and order some whiskey - for all of us.  Muahahaha!

Mom-ee vs. Da-dee

A total Daddy's girl
Thought I would share this convo our family had this morning... and actually happens everyday.  Wonder who's pushing being the first word... ;c)

Me: "Hi Teigan!"
Teigan: "Bahhha Mahhha Ooohww"
Ben: "Teigan, say Daddy!  Da-dee. Da-dee."
Teigan: "Owwhee Aahhh Eeeei"
Ben: "Teigan, say Daddy!  Da-dee. Da-dee."
Me: "Ben, seriously, doesn't Mommy get some play here?"
Ben: "Teigan, say Mommy!  Da-dee.  Da-dee."

Funny thing is, she is way closer to saying Mommy than Daddy... even though it won't be on purpose for another six months or so.  Ben just can't wait.  I love it.  And I love my little family.

Hangin' out

So apparently all I upload these days are video's, but I'll be honest... it's because I haven't taken any pictures.  Gasp!  I know!  Four days without any pictures.  Worst.  Mom.  Ever.  Anywho, enjoy watching Teigan in her hiding place while I was in the kitchen baking cookies.  So presh.

Not much new to report here, other than I've been making a very concerted effort this week to figure out how to handle the taking-care-of-Teigan-situation once I enter my busy season at work - which is right around the corner.  Grandma [Kathy] is so gracious in offering to take Teigan one day/week right now, but we can't consume her every moment during the week.  ;c)

From the get-go, I've really leaned towards getting a part-time babysitter/nanny to watch Teigan a few days a week.  But lately, more people have been suggesting and almost encouraging me to look into traditional daycare's.  Thousands of people do it every day, so why shouldn't I at least look into it?  Well, I did.  How did it turn out?  Um, let's just say that I prefer my child be with someone >19 and <75 years old, have all of their teeth, don't use the word "ain't", and don't give out the building security code to complete strangers.  I may be stretching reality a bit, but it was seriously awful.

Lesson learned on Tuesday: traditional daycare is not for me.  So, if anyone knows anyone here locally that would be interested in helping our little familia out part-time, let me know.  I'm allll ears.

Peace, Love, and "Ain't" ain't a word.

4 Months Old!

Little Miss Teigan Elizabeth is four-months old [yesterday]!

We had a happy, healthy check-up on Friday, despite the fact that she's in the 5th percentile of weight.  ARGH.  They are so pleased, though, with her steady weight gain these past two months and ensure me that we are doing everything right and there's no need to start supplementing with anything.  Phew.  "She's right on track with her own curve."  I'm pretty sure that's what they say later in life to kids that are socially awkward or generally odd.  Thank goodness we're only talking about weight here.  Ha!

Anywhoselbees, here are her stats:
    Age: 123 days old
    Weight: 10 lbs. 13 oz.
    Height: 23 3/4"
    Head circumference: 16"

Sweet, Fancy Teigan

So, for anyone reading this who is friends with me on facebook, you may have already seen some of these, but I know several folks who read this who aren't... so, here's a slew of awesome photos taken by Brittany Payne Photography of our little miss at 3.5 months old.  Enjoy!

Oh, and feel free to leave your thoughts concerning the on-going debate of redhead vs. blonde... totally a redhead, right GG Dick?!

What's that that tastes so good?  Oh!  It's my tutu!

Grabby Grabby

It's hard to believe that Teigan will be four months old on Saturday.  It seems crazy to think that she's been around that long, but boy, we are so blessed to have her.  She is one amazing kiddo with a gummy smile that just melts your heart.
Totally not interested in playing... only interested in eating the toys...
Her latest trick is grabbing for and holding onto everything, including, but not limited to, hair, necklaces, clothing, stuffed animals, toy rings, her bottle, and Ben's chest hairs.  We've figured out that the main reason she grabs for anything these days is so she can put it in her mouth.

Looks like we need to start picking up Hoolie & Rica's deposits in the backyard daily... ewww.  :c)

Remembering 9/11

Yesterday, on the ten year anniversary of 9/11, Ben and I had an absolutely wonderful day.  We had a little photo shoot with sweet T, went for a lovely brunch, walked through downtown Knoxville and did a little shopping, got some mid-afternoon caffeine fixes, and, while I baked, Ben and Teigan took a nap.

When I stopped to think about our awesome family day, I suddenly felt so guilty.  There are so many people out there who were directly affected by the 9/11 tragedy ten years prior... a friend never found, a grandfather deceased, and children growing up without their parent[s].  Yesterday was a terribly difficult day for them, I'm sure.

I often think about how many people are making the ultimate sacrifice for me every single day.  Given the circumstances that these heroes are in, I don't feel worthy.  The fact that I can go for a jog, swing by the grocery store, and love on my baby girl... all of this is possible because I live in the US of A and we have thousands of troops fighting for our freedom every day.

To those who have served [including Grandpa Mileson, Grandpa Slocum, my Dad, and many friends], are serving, and will serve our country - THANK YOU!

Feeling so fortunate and blessed, I'm going to get a head start on Christmas care packages to those doing our country such a great service abroad...

Go Horned Frogs!

Dear TCU,

You're so much better than last week's performance, and I know you lost much of your amazing defensive line, but come on!  Let's see some seriously awesome blood-spitting-from-your-eyes action today!  Go Frogs, beat Air Force!

Love,
Teigan

Here's to being positive!

Things that suck...
  1. Dropping a full bottle of liquid gold [man translation: breast milk] post-pumping and watching it go absolutely freaking everywhere
  2. Feeling totally overwhelmed
  3. Eating an entire bag of popcorn all by yourself
  4. Being the only house in the neighborhood with no power
  5. A flooded basement
  6. The dogs peeing on the indoor rugs because it's piss-pouring outside
  7. A diaper explosion... in public... on the one day you don't have a change of clothes for the babe... or you
  8. A screaming baby in the office
  9. Staying up way past my bedtime
  10. Not getting to spend every waking moment with Ben, Teigan, and our four-legged ladies

Things that are awesome...
  1. The fact that Teigan is still getting exclusively liquid gold
  2. Being provided the opportunity to be able to juggle being a wife, mommy, daughter, sister, employee, and friend
  3. 100 calorie bags of popcorn
  4. KUB calling out a crew and having power back on within an hour of Ben calling
  5. It's finally raining!
  6. Yankee candles
  7. Teigan doesn't have any gas or intestinal issues... and the invention of the scarf
  8. The flexibility that my employer allows me to have with bringing a screaming baby into the office
  9. Words with Friends, People, and US Magazine
  10. Having the best little family a girl could ever ask for who all love me just for who I am

I want to EAT. HER. UP.  Seriously.  Ah, so in love...

Final days at the lake

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a Teigan Shark!
We are so insanely fortunate for a gazillion different reasons, but one that is top-of-mind during the summer is our ability to go to Norris Lake whenever we so please.  Doug and Kathy have a stunning lake house where the motto is "Eat tons, drink more, and sleep whenever and wherever you wish."  Not really, but it should be.  We always dread the weekends winding down and nearing Labor Day as that's usually the last big weekend before the weather cools off and the lake is too low to play much anymore.  Well, that was this weekend and we are slowly wiping away our tears... and we can't stop thinking about just how different next summer at the lake will be with little Miss T running around.  I.can't.wait!

Coming home threads

About to leave the hospital with Daddy on May 19
Close up pre-departure into the wild world
Coming-home-from-the-hospital-outfit.  I have since found out and seriously think most people put a lot of thought into this and, quite often, it's an outfit that you, your siblings, your parents, and your ancestors from the Mayflower all wore on that special day.  Let's be honest, I just went with the cutest full-coverage outfit that was 0-3 months.  At the time, I didn't own anything that was sized for Newborn.  This is funny to me now since she's only recently fitting into 0-3 months clothes properly!

Anyways, the absolutely presh purple lamb onesie with the cutest butt ruffles you've ever seen is one that my mom and I picked out a couple months before Teigan was born.  I rediscovered the outfit last night and decided she needs to sleep in it, like, every other day until she grows out of it because it's so stinkin' cute.  I thought it would be fun to show you the difference that 3.5 months make...
