Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!
I think my cherry pie had a lot to do with Texas winning that evening
One year ago, we all sat around the Thanksgiving table throwing around names of our soon-to-be little one.  Not only did we not know the sex of the baby at the time, but talking about "one year from now, we'll have a baby here at the table with us" seemed so surreal.  Well, the time came and it's the first significant time we had a reference in time to go back to.  So amazing how quickly time has gone by!

This Thanksgiving, and every day, we could not be more thankful for our absolutely amazing daughter.  Teigan, be glad we didn't name you Peileg like Crazy Aunt Cindy was encouraging us to do!
Crazy Aunt Cindy hiding behind her niece, once removed [how historically accurate of me!]
My brother, Matt, has been in town for about a week now and we've had the best time.  He played babysitter on Monday & Tuesday while Ben & I worked.  He had quite the time - changing his first diaper, being spit up on, enduring a pre-feeding crying attack, and exhausting 2,000 calories in 10 minutes while doing his best effort to keep Teigan entertained.  Poor girl is like mama... gets bored far too quickly.  It's been so great having him here and we're totally bummed he's heading out today.  Thank goodness Christmas is only a few weeks away!

As most holidays go with the Slocum's, I find myself feeling sub-par since I'm not some sort of artist, unless sarcasm artist counts.  I am surrounded by the most amazing talent with this family - musicians, painters, carvers, singers, photographers, and actors.  Maybe one day I'll learn to sing something without making ears bleed.  Sigh.  Anyways, I sincerely hope Teigan picks up on some of these gifts.

Happy 1/2 Birthday, Teigan!

I'm six months old!
Outfit 1 today - pre blow-out
Hard to believe the day has come [and mostly gone]... Teigan is six months old!  I can't even begin tell you how blessed we feel to have this little lady in our lives.  We love her so much and don't know how we ever could have lived our lives without her.  Her gummy smile absolutely melts our heart and the constant chatty-ness and giggles are enough to keep us laughing for hours.

Outfit 2 today  ;c)
Don't get me wrong, though, her poop stinks - and I'm not afraid to tell her that... especially during the lovely blow-out we had today.  Phewweee!  Like father [and G-Daddy], like daughter.

We're pretty excited for tomorrow morning as Teigan has her six-month check-up!  We've been working on the whole gaining weight thing ever since we got that "5% percentile in weight" report at her four-month appointment.  Well, thanks to pumping, and in the incorporation of some formula, I think we've done a pretty good job beefing her up... and she seems to be enjoying her new Popeye bod.  Flaunt it, girl, flaunt it.

Sweet, clean oven...

This could go down as the most random post, ever, maybe... but I just have to tell you how amazing Easy Off Oven Cleaner is.  I know, I know, you're like, seriously?!, but yeah, seriously, I'm obsessed.  Ashley told me about it, but to be honest, I really didn't think it would work for our oven.  It's the Whirpool oven that's original with the house [hellooo, 1946] and it had years of disgustingness caked on the inside.  I love the way it looks on the outside and always despised the inside, but I thought, oh well, if someone sees it, they'll know how old it is and not think less of me.  Well, I was starting to think less of myself, especially since I'm a totally obsessive clean-freak.  So, on Sunday before my parents left, I did a little science experiment - and it worked!  Kind of in-love with this stuff.  And by "kind-of", I mean "totally and completely".
Before... I know, I know, try not to throw-up in your mouth...
After!

You heard it here first!

So we have had one heck of a past five days.  My parents decided, with short notice, to come out to Knoxville for a few days!  Let's be honest, we can all blame Teigan for this surprise trip, but really, this had a bit of a secret agenda to go along with it.  You heard it here first... my parents are building a home in Knoxville!  Yep.  Home.  Here.  in Knoxville!  We are so excited to have them in town when they move late next year.  The land has been purchased, the plans for the house are nearing completion with the architect, and the contractor is chomping on the bits to start construction.  YAY, G-Daddy & Grammy!
Date night to Josh Kelley & Lady A!
So anyways, since my parents were here in town, we decided to utilize them as babysitters on Friday night while Ben and I had a date night to our favorite little hang-out in town, Public House, before heading to the Josh Kelley & Lady Antebellum concert!  We had such an amazing night and were so thankful to have a long night to ourselves.  It was all good, of course, until Josh played a song he wrote for his little girl, Naleigh Moon, at which time, Ben and I both were practically in tears and missing our little lady.  Josh must have known this, though, as he transitioned into the Fresh Prince of Bell-air theme song.  Soon after that, Lady Antebellum came on stage and they were fantastic.
Lady A... not too shabby, eh?
We had an absolutely fantastic weekend!  Until next time, Grammy and G-Daddy...

Babies, Wedding, & Family!

Phew.  We survived the weekend!  We had an absolute blast, but I'll be honest here, we didn't get a single minute of down time.  We had friends over Friday night, hosted a baby shower Saturday early afternoon, wedding Saturday evening, and went to Nashville for a quick trip today.  Here's the quick rundown...
Jim, Kate, and Baby Girl Brosnan
Ben & I hosted a baby shower for our friends, Kate & Jim.  We had a blast doing all of the non-typical baby shower things and mostly just ate, drank, and talked about babies... I guess it wasn't much different than our every day these days.  Anyways, it was great!

Ben and Teigan managed to get in a quick 20 minute cat-nap and then we all got ready for Angie & Rusty's wedding at Hunter Valley Farms.  It was honestly one of the most beautiful days we've had here in East Tennessee and absolutely perfect for an outdoor wedding!  Angie looked stunning, as expected.

With Auntie Ashley!
This morning, we got an early start to the day to hop in the car and head out to Nashville [three-hours away] as my brother, Matt, and his girlfriend, Sara, were in town for a wedding this weekend.  We had the pleasure of meeting sweet Bea, Sara's mom, for the first time, too.  We walked to a super-cool, old plantation for brunch.  It was delicious and may, or may not, have included chocolate chip pancakes, cinnamon apples, vanilla milkshakes, and tons of bacon.  I can't pretend... it totally did.
